Case Study: Babou achieves near-real-time, data-driven decision-making with Talend Big Data

A Talend Case Study

Preview of the Babou Case Study

Leveraging big data to make better decisions faster

Babou, France’s leading discount retailer with 94 stores and rapid expansion, faced a challenge: barcode and loyalty programs generated massive volumes of data (hundreds of thousands of transactions and millions of customer interactions) that remained largely unused. The company needed a mobile, user-friendly decision-making solution to turn operational, sales and inventory data into timely, actionable insights for managers and store teams.

Babou deployed Talend Big Data on a Hadoop cluster to build a unified reporting platform and created 15 dashboards that deliver near‑real‑time (H+2) metrics to decision-makers. The solution — using Talend’s connectors and ETL capabilities — powers cross‑channel reports (including an 11‑category comparison of website visits vs. store sales), automated SMS/HTML distribution, and feeds from 650,000 monthly card transactions, enabling faster, more precise operational and strategic decisions and new analytics like weather and geolocation tests.
