A Talend Case Study
Keolis, a global public-transport operator headquartered in France that manages buses, trams, metros and railways across 16 countries, needed to modernize a highly decentralized, legacy IT landscape to improve customer experience. The challenge was to interconnect about 70 disparate systems (including local municipal systems and homegrown transport apps), eliminate the exponential growth of point-to-point interfaces, and deliver real-time route planning, ticketing and validation for mobile and other customer channels.
Keolis implemented a unified mediation platform using Talend Data Services, Talend Real Time Big Data and Talend ESB, with VO2 Group support and a mixed open-source/licensed deployment. The platform powers the Plan/Book/Ticket service and a customer data lake (HDFS + Elasticsearch), processes 2.5 million messages per day across 500 feeds (one-third in real time), and enables immediate ticketing, a 360° customer view, IoT/predictive-maintenance pilots and measurable operational efficiencies at lower cost.
