Aeroporti di Roma (ADR) operates Rome’s Fiumicino and Ciampino airports, serving 48.8 million passengers across hundreds of airlines and destinations. Facing complex, fast‑changing operations—late flights, weather, strikes—and growing pressure to improve customer experience, ADR struggled with manual Excel‑based analysis and rising demand for data integration and self‑service visualization to predict passenger flows and prevent congestion.

Working with partners, ADR built a Big Data analytics platform using Cloudera, Talend Big Data for ingestion, and Qlik for visualization. Talend enabled GDPR‑compliant data integration, self‑service analysis, and in‑memory processing, letting ADR accurately forecast passenger engagement with security and passport control, right‑size staffing, refine passenger segmentation for marketing, and improve operations — processing ~25 million records daily and contributing to ADR being recognized as Europe’s #1 airport.
