A Talend Case Study
Children’s Hospital & Medical Center of Omaha is a 144‑bed, non‑profit, full‑service pediatric specialty center and primary teaching site serving patients across the region. Its IT team faced a complex data challenge: aggregate and reconcile registration, EMR, billing, financial and clinical data coming from multiple vendors and heterogeneous platforms (SQL Server, Cache, text files, spreadsheets, ambulatory and inpatient EMRs, trauma systems) on a limited budget, while overcoming shortcomings in scheduling, normalization and failure tracking from their previous ETL solution.
The hospital adopted Talend Data Integration as its standard, out‑of‑the‑box tool to extract, normalize and load data into its data warehouse (feeding Sybase IQ and QlikView and clinical systems like Eclipsys Sunrise and EpicCare). Talend’s heterogeneous connectivity, in‑stream validation, configurable error alerts and improved scheduling enabled virtual consolidation and automated reconciliation (immunizations, charge tracking), making processing faster and more efficient, reducing errors and reliably handling hundreds of thousands of outpatient transactions annually.
