Case Study: SMAG (InVivo’s agronomic information leader) achieves optimized yields and reduced inputs with Talend Big Data

A Talend Case Study

Preview of the SMAG Case Study

Feeding nine billion people on the planet

InVivo, France’s leading agricultural cooperative group, and its subsidiary SMAG — the country’s leader in agronomic information systems — faced the challenge of ramping up production to help feed a projected nine billion people while protecting the environment. To do this they needed to collect and consolidate highly disparate agricultural data (satellite and drone imagery, 30 years of weather records, IS and trade references) to enable precision farming, automated yield forecasts and faster decision‑making.

Working with JEMS datafactory and using Talend Big Data, SMAG built a Hadoop/Elasticsearch data lake and the Data Crop algorithm in six months to ingest ~300 GB/day (about 10,000 spatial images per year) and cross diverse datasets. The platform now manages roughly 80% of French wheat plots, reduces input use, improves farmers’ margins, speeds market forecasting, strengthens traceability and food safety, and supports expansion to more crops and countries.
