Case Study: Hermes achieves real-time parcel instruction processing and improved customer service with Talend

A Talend Case Study

Preview of the Hermes Case Study

Accessing parcel delivery instructions in real time

Hermes, one of the UK’s largest parcel carriers handling up to two million parcels a day, needed to supplement its visibility into parcel movements and create a real‑time “Single View of the Customer.” The challenge was to ingest and assess high‑velocity delivery instructions (peaks of about 1,000 records/second), ensure no record waited longer than 15 minutes to be processed, and have a working solution in place within 16 weeks ahead of the Christmas period.

Hermes chose Talend Data Fabric (ESB, APIs, Data Quality) and partner Datalytyx to build the SVoC on AWS. Datalytyx delivered a queuing service, about 16 APIs, CRM synchronization and data‑quality matching in four two‑week sprints and met the 16‑week deadline. The solution processes over 1.5 million instructions a day within 15 minutes (12 million records were handled in six weeks after Black Friday), improving customer service, reducing fraudulent missing‑parcel claims, and providing scalable, monitored operations.
