Case Study: Finter secures its IoT network and saves time with Tailscale

A Tailscale Case Study

Using Tailscale to manage remote cameras in a hub-and-spoke network

Finter, a Norwegian startup building IoT toll collection and traffic systems, needed a better way to manage a rapidly growing fleet of processing nodes and remote cameras over 4G. After struggling with manual firmware updates and trying other VPN tools, the team turned to Tailscale to simplify secure access to devices in its hub-and-spoke network.

Tailscale provided a secure mesh network built on WireGuard with automatic key management, giving Finter a reliable way to reach each site through Ansible while keeping sites isolated from one another with ACLs. The result was much simpler device management and far less time spent on updates—Christian Waatland said he could now save a lot of time, keep the system running more reliably, and focus on other work.
