Shiguredo uses Tailscale to solve the issues that arise with cloud services using bare-metal servers

Shiguredo, an IT software company, develops the WebRTC SFU service Sora and needed a way to keep real-time communication reliable and affordable. Their challenge was balancing high availability, continuous connectivity, and low costs while using bare-metal servers for bandwidth- and CPU-intensive workloads.

To solve this, Shiguredo used Tailscale to connect bare-metal servers at DataPacket with cloud servers from providers like Vultr and Linode as if they were on one private network. This let them quickly add cloud nodes during load spikes or failures, secure Erlang/OTP distributed communication without extra TLS complexity, and manage servers via Tailscale SSH and monitoring. The result was a more resilient, cost-effective service with low-latency connections of roughly 0.6–1.7 ms between servers.
