How Sanity solved their VPN problem with Tailscale

Sanity, a SaaS CMS founded in Norway in 2017, needed a simpler and more secure way to connect to its intranet and production environment across clouds. The company had been relying on bastion hosts and console access, and looked for a VPN solution that could streamline access without adding operational complexity. Tailscale provided the secure connectivity layer Sanity needed, including support for Split DNS and access management.

With Tailscale, Sanity simplified onboarding, improved secure connectivity across its cloud infrastructure, and made it easier to control access to specific systems using ACLs. The team could quickly deploy Tailscale on laptops and in production, and new engineers could join by just downloading the client and logging in. According to Sanity, Tailscale eliminated much of the friction of traditional VPNs, reduced maintenance burden, and “just works,” delivering a smoother long-term solution.
