Kellogg’s approached Tactical Solutions with a challenge to understand how their share of shelf space in Sainsbury’s stores was being impacted by competitor activities, especially during the COVID period. Their key objectives were to measure this impact and to establish a baseline position after reaching a new agreement with the retailer to increase their share.

Tactical Solutions implemented an image recognition solution, training its AI system to identify cereal products with high accuracy. Their teams captured in-store images during routine visits, and the data was analyzed alongside EPOS and planogram data. The results revealed low compliance with agreed plans and a significant shortfall in Kellogg's share of shelf. This data was used by Kellogg's in joint business planning negotiations to successfully secure a significant expansion of their shelf space.
