University of Western Sydney accesses market insights in hours

The University of Western Sydney (UWS), a research-led institution with six campuses serving over 40,000 students, faced a rapidly changing higher-education environment as deregulation removed enrollment caps and put pressure on pricing and market competition. UWS needed faster, more granular market and geographic insights, a way to model pricing impacts, and quicker analysis of large student surveys to stay competitive and responsive.

UWS implemented Tableau (with Alteryx for data prep and IBM text analytics for open‑text classification) to build interactive geographic analyses, a pricing model dashboard, and visualized survey reports. The new dashboards let deans simulate price changes’ effects on revenue, cost and intake, turned survey analysis from weeks for many staff into hours for one analyst, and gave committees timely, actionable insights—improving decision-making and student response times while creating a single point of access for university data.
