University of Georgia Data literacy prepares students for the future

The University of Georgia’s accounting program, serving thousands of undergraduates across 17 schools and colleges, identified a growing skills gap as accounting firms increasingly prioritize data analytics in hiring. To ensure students enter internships and jobs job-ready, faculty made data literacy a curricular priority.

UGA integrated hands‑on Tableau training and casework into accounting courses, giving students practical experience in data analysis and visualization. The change has reenergized classes, sharpened students’ data storytelling and communication skills, and impressed employers — prompting faculty to expand and share accessible Tableau cases across the program.
