The University of California, Irvine Medical Center, a top-50 U.S. hospital and the only university hospital in Orange County, needed a way to turn disparate spreadsheets and Access databases into actionable insight while their enterprise data warehouse was still in progress. With constrained IT and clinical resources and a need for near–real-time visibility to improve patient care and identify best practices, they needed a fast, easy-to-use analytics solution that clinical teams could run themselves.

UCI implemented Tableau, quickly creating visualizations from existing spreadsheets and deploying Tableau Server as an enterprise BI portal. The self-service model put analytics in the hands of clinicians and analysts, minimized IT overhead, and produced near–real-time dashboards that let teams detect and address issues as they arise—improving decision speed, operational transparency, and patient care quality.
