UChicago Medicine, a major academic medical center in the Chicagoland area, relied on its Data & Analytics team to meet an urgent surge in reporting needs during the COVID‑19 pandemic. With data already central to operations across its 1,200+ beds and multiple facilities, the team had to rapidly produce new, actionable dashboards so leadership, clinicians, and administrators could make timely, data‑driven operational and clinical decisions.

The team partnered with IT, Infection Control, ICU clinicians, and operational leaders to build a suite of dashboards—real‑time patient status, COVID census and ventilator use, workflow timing, patient and ICU outcomes, and testing volumes/positivity—that were developed in weeks and have become the organization’s most‑viewed internal reporting, continually refined as needs evolve. UChicago Medicine also published jumpstart versions of these dashboards (with placeholder/dummy data) for other health systems to download and customize with their own data.
