Transforming Healthcare Data into Insight with Tableau Visual Analytics

St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust, the largest healthcare provider in southwest London with more than 6,000 staff, was hampered by manual, siloed reporting—spreadsheets, slide decks and pivot tables that left clinical directors working with data as much as three months out of date and inconsistent between departments—making it difficult to manage patient flow, resources and clinical outcomes.

By deploying Tableau visual analytics (rapid Desktop adoption and ~100 Server users), the trust built near real-time dashboards for ED, arrivals and specialty services, shifting scorecard reporting from quarterly to daily and enabling same-day analysis (for example, a 30–35 minute visual that identified stroke activity as a demand driver). The result: faster, data-driven decisions, improved care coordination and quality, increased operational efficiency, and a roadmap toward self-service analytics across the hospital.
