Preview of the The Municipality of Nijmegen Case Study

The Municipality of Nijmegen uses Tableau to make informed, data-driven decisions on local policies and developments

The Municipality of Nijmegen, the oldest city in the Netherlands and its tenth largest municipality, needed faster, clearer insights to guide local policy across safety, public space, social care and pandemic response. Faced with tight budgets (almost half spent in the Social Domain), slow monthly reviews, manual Excel reporting and the need to support local businesses during COVID‑19, Nijmegen set out to build an internal data culture and a single source of truth to make timelier, evidence‑based decisions.

Working with Tableau and partner Infotopics, Nijmegen connected its data warehouse to interactive dashboards that automate reporting, benchmark KPIs and enable weekly policy calibration. The result: BI teams spend less time on manual work, policymakers react faster, a healthcare intervention reduced unnecessary referrals and costs, and public dashboards help local businesses respond to changing footfall—while ongoing training and governance prepare the city for more predictive analytics.
