Case Study: Tesco achieves demonstrable L&D ROI and automated training insights with Tableau Software

A Tableau Software Case Study

Preview of the Tesco Case Study

Tesco uses Tableau to better understand the training needs of thousands of employees

Tesco’s Customer Engagement Centre, supporting over 1,000 employees, struggled to quantify the return on its Learning & Development (L&D) investment because training data lived in disparate places—SQL Server, Microsoft Forms and Excel—and reporting was manual and fragmented. Without a consolidated view, it was difficult to link courses to changes in employee performance, identify trends, or present clear ROI to senior leadership.

By bringing all L&D and performance data into a single Tableau dashboard, Tesco replaced 74 charts with one source of truth, automated reporting (saving thousands of hours and replacing two full-time report-writers), and enabled individual-level tracking of training impact. Visual and sentiment analysis of feedback revealed actionable issues (e.g., room temperature and remote access problems), a reduced five-question survey boosted response rates, and leaders can now demonstrably link training to improvements in confidence, sentiment and KPI performance.
