A Tableau Software Case Study
Tesco, one of the world’s largest retailers with over 3,000 UK stores and roughly 15,000 products per store, faced the challenge of making sense of massive, store-level supply chain data held in a 100TB Teradata warehouse (five years of sales, waste, product and store data). The team needed to spot regional trends, predict demand (for example weather-driven "hot weekends"), improve in-store availability and quality, and communicate findings to non-technical directors and business users who often lack SQL skills.
By connecting Tableau live to Teradata and visualizing data on maps and dashboards, Tesco could quickly identify stores that needed better stock or targeted interventions, run weather-based demand models, and present clear, actionable results to decision-makers. The approach sped up analysis, opened data to non-developers, improved product availability at key times, and helped drive better supply-chain decisions that supported increased sales.
