Telehealth and Tableau help Community Medical Centers withstand operational and budgetary challenges during COVID-19

Community Medical Centers (CMC) is a nonprofit network of 22 neighborhood health centers in Stockton, California, serving over 100,000 patients across three counties. Before 2017 CMC struggled with slow, limited reporting and a backlog of analytics requests; when COVID-19 sharply reduced in‑person visits and threatened operating revenue, leadership needed fast, actionable insight to manage a rapid shift to telehealth and protect the organization’s finances and patient care.

CMC implemented Tableau (on‑premises), building more than 70 dashboards and daily COVID‑19/telehealth reports that leadership and clinicians used to track billable encounters, prioritize patients, monitor test results and turnaround times, and disseminate new operational guidance. The analytics-enabled shift to virtual visits preserved revenue through billable telehealth consultations, improved care delivery and risk stratification, built patient trust, and fostered collaboration with other community health organizations.
