Stepping Up Treatment with Mobility Outreach International

Mobility Outreach International (MOi) is a 27‑year‑old nonprofit that provides prosthetics, orthotics, and clubfoot treatment in countries such as Vietnam, Haiti, Sierra Leone, and Bangladesh. Long, multi‑year treatment regimens were hampered by paper records and error‑prone Excel exports, leaving clinicians without reliable patient histories or clinic‑ and country‑level visibility and contributing to high dropout rates. When data lead Carla Villoria joined in 2014, her charge was to analyze those records and boost program success.

MOi implemented Dimagi’s CommCare mobile data collection in 2015 and built Tableau dashboards and automated reports to give clinicians real‑time caseload management and program teams map‑based oversight. After prototyping with clinician feedback and onboarding 47 partner clinics, paperwork dropped, patient tracking and scheduling improved, and teams could compare performance across clinics and target underserved regions. MOi aimed for full partner adoption by mid‑2016 and continues transferring the system to national health ministries to scale impact.
