Sony harnesses music streaming data to optimize marketing efficiency with Tableau

Sony Music, a global leader in recorded music, faced an explosion of streaming data — an estimated 3–5 billion new data points per week plus sources like Shazam, YouTube, radio and chart feeds — which made reporting slow, siloed and manual (dozens of staff producing Excel reports) and limited marketers to basic KPIs rather than actionable insights.

Since introducing Tableau in 2014, Sony built centralized, self-service interactive dashboards used by about 2,000 employees, cutting routine reporting time and freeing teams to focus on analysis, creativity and agile prototyping. The change delivered faster project execution, deeper marketing insights (for example, platform playlists can drive more than half of streaming revenue) and better-aligned, data-driven marketing decisions.
