Simmons - Customer Case Study

Simmons Foods, a Siloam Springs, Arkansas–based, B2B poultry grower and processor with over 6,000 employees, needed to turn scattered, Excel-heavy data and siloed reporting into actionable demand-planning insight to protect thin margins. The Demand Planning team spent up to half their time on “data grunt work,” ran planning cycles only monthly, and faced days-long turnaround on ad-hoc questions because critical data lived in disparate reports and spreadsheets despite an Oracle back-end.

After evaluating options, Simmons adopted Tableau—starting with free trials and rapid internal demos—then rolled out Tableau Desktop and Server with targeted training. The team moved to daily automated dashboards, multiplied analytics output by about ten, and cut inventory roughly 23% (saving millions) while improving on-time shipments and drastically reducing time-to-answer; the success is now being expanded into the Pet Food segment and is driving a more data-driven culture across the company.
