Case Study: Pulse Mining Systems achieves rapid, cost-effective analytics and actionable insights with Tableau Software

A Tableau Software Case Study

Preview of the Pulse Mining Systems Case Study

Pulse Mining helps customers improve systems and spot outliers

Pulse Mining Systems, a 30-year ERP specialist in the Newcastle/Hunter Region serving the mining and coal-export sectors, faced a market downturn and the need for new revenue. Many customers were hoarding transactional data in disparate spreadsheets and legacy systems, wasting time on manual reporting. To address this, Pulse launched a Visualisation & Analytics division to deliver a simple, cost-effective BI solution that could quickly surface operational insights.

Pulse built a mining-specific, plug-and-play analytics offering using Tableau and Birst, with prebuilt templates and data models that sit on top of existing systems. The solution delivered fast, practical results—resolving a 20-year operational question for Whitehaven Coal, cutting days of data administration to hours, and scaling from 4 to 20 licenses—while enabling new visualisations (e.g., coal quality mapped to GPS) and creating a sustainable revenue stream.
