Provincie Zuid‑Holland, the Dutch provincial government serving about 3.5 million residents, struggled with large, disparate and often unstructured data—housing, traffic, demographics and geospatial files stored across SQL, Excel, Access and XML/GML formats. Analysts spent extensive time producing static JPEGs and Excel reports to answer growing policy and public information requests, making it hard to deliver timely, transparent insights.

By adopting Tableau and embedding interactive dashboards in a BI portal and on the province website, they unified multiple data sources, handled complex geospatial analysis, and replaced static graphics with live, updatable visualizations. The change sped up analysis, allowed the team to publish more information in the same time window, improved public engagement and transparency, and made data work more efficient and enjoyable for analysts.
