Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust, a major provider of community and mental health services in Greater Manchester with 5,500 staff serving over 1.3 million people, struggled with fragmented data from more than 15 systems. Reliant on Excel and manual SQL, the Trust faced long reporting cycles, poor data quality, low staff trust in reports, and siloed services—notably across ten types of children’s services—hindering coordinated care and decision making.

By rolling out Tableau—now used by over 600 staff with more than 1,000 operational dashboards connected to the Trust’s data warehouse—Pennine Care moved to near real-time daily reporting, cut report delivery times by weeks, and improved data quality and ownership. The insight-driven approach broke down service silos (revealing patients seen by multiple teams), enabled more coordinated children’s care, increased collaboration and morale, and helped secure funding for new initiatives such as A&E follow-ups and expanded paediatric services.
