ModCloth: Retro fashions meet state of the art data analysis

ModCloth, a fast-growing online retailer of retro clothing and home décor that generated over $100 million in revenue in 2012, faced a bottleneck in turning disparate data into timely insights. Analysts were overloaded with ticketed data requests, stakeholders needed ad-hoc answers across merchandising, marketing, HR and operations, and the company had data scattered across Redshift, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Google Analytics and spreadsheets.

By adopting Tableau, ModCloth gave stakeholders a self-service analytics platform that connects to virtually any data source and makes blending and prototyping simple. Analysts shifted from routine reporting to predictive and deep-dive work, teams across Windows and Mac environments could share workbooks, and the company standardized how data would be ingested into the central warehouse. The result: faster answers, smoother cross-team collaboration, and roughly 200 previously fulfilled analyst requests in a single quarter being handled directly by users.
