Lufthansa Group, a global aviation company with over 550 subsidiaries and roughly 124,300 employees, faced fragmented reporting across departments and brands (including Swiss and Austrian Airlines). Reporting was largely paper‑based and inconsistent, with teams spending about 80% of their time on data preparation and only 20% on analysis. The company needed a user‑friendly, group‑wide reporting solution that could connect diverse data sources (Teradata, SAS, Oracle, Excel and external feeds) and enable self‑service for business users.
Lufthansa implemented Tableau to consolidate data sources, standardize KPIs and automate reporting, enabling interactive, live analysis and greater departmental autonomy. Within a year about 500 users were consuming reports; standardization and automation yielded roughly 30% time savings and shifted the prep:analysis balance to 60:40. The change improved cross‑departmental collaboration, sped decision‑making up to board level, and helped Lufthansa respond faster to market and customer needs.
