Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center’s School of Public Health Epidemiology Department runs the Louisiana Breast and Cervical Health Program (LBCHP) under a CDC grant to ensure uninsured and underinsured women receive cancer screening and diagnostics. The program needed to coordinate data across clinics statewide, monitor quality and timeliness (including outliers in rescreening and follow-up), and present clear, compelling results to providers and funders despite limited SQL/IT resources.

LBCHP adopted Tableau to produce maps, charts and heatmaps for provider progress reports, quality-control investigations, and timeliness tracking. The visualizations exposed outliers (e.g., delayed mammogram readings after Hurricane Rita), prompted corrective actions by providers, improved program performance and timeliness, empowered nontechnical staff to explore data, and helped secure and justify new funding efforts such as a colorectal screening pilot.
