Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity tackles major urban health issues with advanced mapping capabilities in Tableau

Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity is an independent urban health foundation working with Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust to improve health across London’s Lambeth and Southwark boroughs, with roughly £250m planned spend over the next decade. The Charity needed a faster, more accurate way to identify priority locations for complex problems like childhood obesity; relying on Excel made it slow and difficult to respond to follow-up questions or pinpoint precise streets and neighborhoods.

The Charity standardised on Tableau and Tableau Online to build interactive maps, combine multiple datasets, and integrate spend data from Salesforce, turning analyses that once took weeks into minutes (often ~20 minutes). This enabled precise targeting of interventions—raising in-region deployment of resources from a 70% goal to over 80%—and improved transparency and accountability by sharing insights with trustees, partners and the public.
