Granite School District sees the big picture in student data

Granite School District, which serves nine cities and more than 60,000 students in the Salt Lake City region, struggled to turn disparate attendance, test, disciplinary and demographic data into actionable insight. Administrators and teachers received narrow, static reports with delays and little context—making it hard to compare year-to-year performance, identify at‑risk students, or determine athletic eligibility—so leaders often relied on intuition rather than facts.

The IT team built student-profile dashboards in Tableau that pull data from the district’s Microsoft SQL Server warehouse, publish to Tableau Server, and are embedded in the district portal with access controlled via existing security (Active Directory/trusted tickets). Students, parents, teachers, and administrators now see comprehensive, timely views (including risk indicators and proficiency context), enabling faster, data-driven intervention, better planning across grades, and district-wide value without costly, single-purpose tools.
