ExxonMobil’s Data Quality Center handles vast, complex oil-and-gas datasets and needed to give engineers and geoscientists fast, reliable access to high‑quality data. Their previous workflow was slow and inflexible—manual exports to Excel and Access and extensive cleanup—so users wanted a more intuitive, self‑service way to find and act on data quality issues.

By publishing interactive dashboards on Tableau Server (a “Gallery of Dashboards”), ExxonMobil empowered users to explore, customize and monitor data themselves; an intern even built a management dashboard that condensed many rules into a single color‑coded quality score mapped across Gulf of Mexico lease blocks. The Tableau rollout improved data visibility and cleanup workflows, boosting decision-making and delivering dramatic time savings—up to 95% in some cases—while raising overall data quality.
