DePauw University Sorts Out Student Data Using Tableau

DePauw University faced a post-upgrade data challenge: its Institutional Research office needed to pull student metrics, enrollment, peer group comparisons and financials from an Oracle system and make that information accessible and usable for nontechnical stakeholders to support strategic planning.

By connecting Tableau directly to Oracle, the team built visual analyses and distributed interactive reports—applying 20 strategic indicators for the Board and other departments. The change cut a weeks‑long reporting process to about half a day, produced faster, more accurate strategic reports, enabled on‑the‑fly exploration by demographics and metrics, and extended use to IPEDS, grades, class schedules and alumni mapping.
