De Montfort University, a long-established institution with 127 nationalities across 170 courses, needed clearer, more accessible reporting from its Strategic Planning team. Legacy BI tools were overly technical, producing slow, inflexible reports and prompting departments to create their own inconsistent, ad‑hoc data solutions—leading to disengaged staff, wasted meeting time, and poor decision support.

After trialing several visualization products, the university adopted Tableau, rolling out Server and Desktop licenses and then an institutional licence as demand grew. Tableau made reports faster to build and easier to explore, drove widespread user adoption across finance, HR and academic quality, and delivered more engaging, visually clear insights—improving reporting efficiency, stakeholder engagement, and decision making across the university.
