Cranfield University research class cuts data analysis effort by half

Cranfield University, a UK research institution strong in aerospace, manufacturing and transport, needed a way to teach gas‑turbine performance analysis without time‑consuming data wrangling. Dr. Uyioghosa Igie’s research students work with engine datasets to quantify degradation and effects like online washes, and he wanted an engaging tool that could show the research journey as well as the results.

After adopting Tableau, students used intuitive visualizations (including motion charts) to explore engine behavior and tell the story behind the numbers. The change cut data analysis time by about half, boosted student engagement and capability, and freed the class to focus on higher‑value insights for industry partners.
