Castor powers COVID-19 clinical research across the globe using Tableau

Castor is a medical-research EDC platform focused on making data machine-readable, reusable, and widely available. When COVID-19 struck, clinicians and researchers needed fast, standardized data capture and real-time insight to understand the disease and allocate scarce hospital resources—particularly ICU capacity—across many sites and countries.

Castor made its platform free for COVID-19 research, providing WHO-based pre-built eCRFs and going live in about six days on average. By integrating Tableau visual analytics (with support from The Information Lab Netherlands and Alteryx) and real-time APIs, Castor fed predictive algorithms and dashboards (used in the COVID-19 Predict study) that aggregate over five million data points—helping hospitals optimize admissions, reduce crowding, protect staff, and prioritize the sickest patients.
