California State University, Fresno’s Office of Institutional Effectiveness needed faster, more accessible insight into graduation, retention and campus survey data. Producing the annual data book had been a time‑ and resource‑intensive process—relying on PDFs and spreadsheets and requiring the whole office to compile tables and demographic breakdowns.

By adopting Tableau Desktop and Tableau Server and using the Web Data Connector to bring Qualtrics survey data into Tableau, the office automated dashboards that leaders can filter by demographic profiles and drill into individual student lists. The change reduced the data‑book task to a single analyst’s refresh, gave deans and chairs on‑demand access to interactive insights, and freed staff to spend more time engaging stakeholders and improving student outcomes.
