Building a Center of Enablement: A retail leader’s recent journey to data literacy and digital transformation

Carter’s Inc., the Atlanta-based children’s apparel retailer, needed a better way to turn 50TB of enterprise data into timely, usable insights across 18 business teams. After years on a legacy MicroStrategy setup, the company moved to Tableau Server on AWS and created a more data-driven operating model to support its 20,000-plus employees and high-volume retail business.

Using Tableau Software, Carter’s built a Center of Enablement, rolled out self-service training and dashboard development, and added Tableau Data Management for governance and trusted access. The results included automated reporting that eliminated 5 to 6 hours of weekend work for the Buying & Planning team, faster Monday executive reporting, stronger data literacy, and a “single source of truth” that helped unify workflows and improve decision-making across the company.
