ASM Research, a 30+-year provider of IT and professional services to government, was hired to help the Army National Guard turn massive, disparate data from more than 50 interfaces across a 54‑state model into actionable insight. The Guard relied on Excel and PowerPoint for analysis, needed secure, role‑based access (including DoD smart‑card authentication), and required a way to view high‑level overviews and drill down to specific courses, schools, and training requirements.

ASM combined the multiple data sources in Tableau, built interactive dashboards, and embedded them into the Guard’s web application using a service‑oriented architecture and DoD‑compliant authentication (Tableau Server was placed on the Certificate of Networthiness). The deployment delivered immediate, measurable impact — a $20 million savings upon rollout — while enabling faster drill‑downs, broader adoption, and new analytics use cases across the organization.
