Ashok Leyland, a Chennai‑based commercial-vehicle manufacturer with a global footprint, was facing intense competition and needed to reduce costs and sharpen differentiation. As part of a broader digital transformation the company aimed to build an information-driven culture, but existing BI tools lacked the self-service, interactive dashboards and visual insights required for daily decision‑making.

After piloting Tableau and validating its performance, Ashok Leyland deployed it across sales, quality, service, operations and HR, connecting to SAP BW, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL and external files and using Tableau Server to control access and security. The rollout democratized analytics—teams now analyze about 1.7 TB (~5 million rows), build dashboards in half a day instead of up to ten, and have driven tangible improvements such as deeper warranty insights and better product quality, while training staff and forming a dedicated analytics capability.
