Case Study: AOL achieves self-service business intelligence and real-time analytics with Tableau Software

A Tableau Software Case Study

Preview of the AOL Case Study

AOL Gets Better Insights, Faster

AOL, a leading web services company, faced the challenge of managing enormous search-data volumes—roughly 400–800 million records per day—while relying on a push model of manually produced reports that were not integrated with the corporate data repository. That workflow created long QA cycles, slow delivery (sometimes weeks), and heavy dependence on the BI team to pull ad hoc and recurring reports.

Within a year AOL became a fully integrated Tableau organization, publishing dashboards on Tableau Server to enable self-service BI, real-time trackers (updated ~every 15 minutes), and controlled access to reports. The change cut report creation from weeks to minutes or hours, saved at least 64 hours on a single recurring report, freed analysts to solve problems rather than pull data, and gave executives fast, actionable visibility into product and campaign performance.
