Amylin Pharmaceuticals needed to turn massive, diverse datasets—prescription records, sales-force activity, demographic and census data—into actionable insight, but faced slow, manual analysis and limited analytics expertise across sales and marketing. Their challenge was to explore and communicate answers from a data mart containing roughly 100 million records without slowing teams or relying on specialist tools.
By deploying Tableau on top of MySQL/Infobright sources, Amylin created interactive dashboards, maps and point‑and‑click analytics that let users slice, dice and drill into data in real time. The change cut analysis time dramatically (what used to take ~5 hours can now be done in about 1), allowed exploration of hundreds of millions of rows on a desktop, empowered nontechnical users, and improved territory planning and resource optimization.
