Advocate Health Care Improves Patient Safety and Care

Advocate Health Care, the largest health system in Illinois and one of the top ten in the U.S., faced lower-than-expected physician compliance with its Electronic Health Record order-entry processes and needed to raise computerized provider order entry (CPOE) compliance above 80% and eliminate order-entry errors. Initial adoption efforts produced little change, so Advocate partnered with Slalom to conduct a data-driven analysis and develop a targeted improvement strategy.

Slalom pulled and integrated millions of rows of order data into Microsoft SQL Server and built interactive, user-friendly Tableau dashboards, then delivered site-by-site workshops and a self-service BI tool rolled out to eight hospitals. The visualizations let clinical informaticists quickly spot trends, isolate root causes, and implement process and policy changes—empowering staff to improve CPOE compliance and strengthen patient safety and care.
