ODU Overhauls Its Hourly Parking With T2 MobilePay

Old Dominion University, one of Virginia’s largest universities, needed a better way to manage hourly parking across its growing campus. Its metered areas were underused, permit lots were full, and 15 aging pay stations needed replacement without available upfront capital. ODU Transportation & Parking Services turned to T2 Systems and its T2 MobilePay solution to modernize parking payments and improve lot utilization.

T2 Systems implemented MobilePay so parkers could pay by scanning a QR code or texting an SMS short code, with no app or account required. ODU piloted the system, then expanded it from permit-only areas to all hourly parking locations, replacing pay stations campuswide. The result was strong adoption, with transactions rising from about 200 per day in summer to 650 per day once campus activity returned, along with positive user feedback and seamless integration with LPR enforcement.
