Maxwell Air Force Base, a large U.S. Air Force installation in Montgomery, Alabama, needed better ways to prevent perimeter breaches across more than 4,100 acres and nearly 50 miles of road. One border along the Alabama River was especially difficult to secure, creating an open-perimeter challenge that strained base security resources. AT&T Business was brought in to help with an IoT-based smart base pilot program, using connected security and messaging services.
AT&T Business implemented infrared perimeter fencing, video monitoring, secure LTE connectivity, and group messaging through a common operating portal so security teams could assess alerts in real time and respond appropriately. The solution helped reduce false alarms and improved situational awareness, cutting deployed manpower at the perimeter by 25% to 30%. Maxwell Air Force Base also gained a more efficient, centralized security operation that supports faster response and better base protection.
