PDA Application Development Helps Hospitalist Groups Improve Billing and Quality of Care

Biologix-IT, a Kansas City healthcare application firm, was engaged to help Midwest Hospital Specialists replace error-prone handwritten encounter notes with structured, point-of-care capture so physician groups could improve billing accuracy and quality reporting. To build the mobile solution Biologix-IT used SYWARE’s Visual CE (with SYWARE’s mEnable for wireless database access) to create the AIMS Mobility Pocket PC application running on Windows Mobile devices.

Using SYWARE Visual CE and mEnable, Biologix-IT delivered a synced handheld workflow that downloads the day’s census in seconds, guides physicians through standardized encounter forms (room sort, pick lists, timed services) and wirelessly syncs data to the central ODBC database. SYWARE’s tools sped development (about 10× faster than traditional methods), eliminated transcription errors, helped recover previously unbilled or under‑billed services, reduced payer denials/delays, and provided actionable metrics to improve both clinical outcomes and financial performance.
