Mobile Database Application Captures Critical Job Tracking and Inventory Data

Joslyn Manufacturing, a producer of custom-formed plastic OEM components and retail point-of-purchase displays, needed a way to access and capture frequent job quotes, purchase orders and inventory data while staff—particularly COO Brett Joslyn—were away from their desktop PCs. To extend Microsoft Access data to handheld devices without expensive development, Joslyn turned to SYWARE and its Visual CE mobile database and forms tool.

Using SYWARE's Visual CE, Joslyn built customized handheld apps (for purchase orders and job quotes) in about an hour, synchronized records bi-directionally with the desktop, and accessed data on devices such as the Compaq iPAQ. The solution delivered clear productivity gains—about 1–2 hours saved per day for the COO—faster quote retrieval and improved inventory visibility, and set the stage for barcode scanning and real-time ERP updates across Joslyn Manufacturing.
