Hollywood Video Uses Pocket PC Applications to Audit Store Operations

Hollywood Video, one of the country’s largest video chains with over 1,800 stores, faced a costly and error-prone audit process: quarterly loss-prevention audits used 12-page paper forms that were faxed to headquarters and re-keyed into a database, creating a large backlog, high paper/fax costs, and data-entry mistakes. To modernize audits, Hollywood Video worked with SYWARE and used SYWARE’s Visual CE to move the full audit onto Pocket PCs.

Using SYWARE’s Visual CE, Hollywood Video implemented a Pocket PC audit app that guides auditors through 110+ questions, auto-calculates section and overall scores, and syncs data directly into an Access database for same-day reporting. The SYWARE solution eliminated thousands of faxed pages and re-keying, removed roughly 10 minutes of processing per audit (about 50–67 hours saved per quarter for 300–400 audits), and improved accuracy and reporting speed by making audit data available immediately.
