Crossroads Software, a Brea, California developer of motor-vehicle and law enforcement database solutions, needed a safer, faster way for officers to write citations and get data into a central system without days or months of manual entry. To build Crossroads Handheld Citation, Crossroads used SYWARE’s Visual CE (and Report CE) Windows CE development and reporting tools to create a barcode- and magnetic-stripe-enabled handheld application that captures signatures, photos, and citation details in the field.

Using SYWARE’s Visual CE and Report CE, Crossroads deployed a Dolphin handheld/printer solution that lets officers scan licenses, complete drop-down forms, capture signatures/photos, print tickets, and synchronize records to a central Collision Database the same day. The system—now in pilots at Washoe County Sheriff’s Department and other Nevada agencies and integrated with Crossroads’ Collision Database used by over 140 jurisdictions—eliminates time-consuming data entry, speeds analysis with current data, and improves officer safety and record accuracy.
