Digital Authentication Prevents Drug Counterfeiting and Diversion in High-Risk Markets

Global Pharmaceutical Company, a patient-focused global pharma with a 235‑year heritage operating in 70+ regions and marketing in ~100 countries, faced rampant counterfeiting and product diversion in high‑risk markets (Kenya, the Philippines, Ukraine) and limited visibility once products left the factory. Believing serialization alone was insufficient, the company partnered with Systech to pilot anti‑counterfeit and anti‑diversion protections using Systech Brand Protection Suite™, including digital authentication (e‑Fingerprint®) and track‑and‑trace capabilities.

Systech implemented a multi‑layered solution that created a unique e‑Fingerprint from micro‑variances in existing barcodes, stored it securely in the cloud, and enabled item‑level authentication via a standard smartphone app while integrating Systech’s track‑and‑trace for end‑to‑end visibility. The pilot protected high‑value oncology products in Africa, required no packaging changes, was secure against reverse engineering, and was fast and cost‑effective—hardware installation to testing took four days with two more for validation—demonstrating scalability and prompting wider deployment plans.
