Penflex makes its mark with SYSPRO

Penflex, a Cape Town–based manufacturer of pens, markers and stationery, was running but under‑utilising its SYSPRO ERP system and suffering from application erosion — poor management reports, an incoherent GL, rudimentary WIP use, reliance on Excel and manual processes, and no barcode/scanning. To address these challenges Penflex undertook a re‑implementation of SYSPRO ERP Software (SYSPRO 8) to restore confidence in the platform and align the system with manufacturing business needs.

Using SYSPRO ERP Software, Penflex restructured the GL, reclassified products, integrated WIP with labour and overhead recovery to the GL, introduced barcode/scanning and landed‑cost tracking, replaced an in‑house job system, and rewrote financial reports with Microsoft SQL Reporting Services for real‑time GL visibility and consolidation. The work streamlined operations, reduced administration and errors, enabled live sales and COGS tracking against budget, and freed up staff time — saving “at least 20 man hours per week.”
